What's New?
6/23 Glass Announcement: The glass machine is presently down for repairs and our bins are filling up fast. If you're reading this notice, please do not bring your glass until we've worked through the backlog, which should be next week sometime. I'll post an update here when it's safe to bring your glass again. Thanks for your patience! - Betsy On the subject of Metal Drives... We typically do metal drives every three years. After the wildly successful drive of 2007 we targeted spring of 2010 for our next event. Since then, the commoditiy markets fell to such a depth that if we held one now if would cost us all quite a lot. We are hopeful that metals markets will recover before next spring. A decision will be made by the end of this year regarding the likelihood of a 2010 drive. Meanwhile, please remember that we can accept non-ferrous metals (aluminum, copper, brass, electric wire - magnets do not stick) at the center all the time. If you have a vehicle to get rid of, please check out the vehicle donation link below, which is also available now. Financial Update: First Quarter, 2009 Until this year we did not depend on donations for operations (other than for glass) and only sought grants and donations for capital improvements or expansion. In the first three months of this year the ratio of donations to recycling revenues has exactly flipped, from 17% donations & 83% recycling in 2008, to 83% donations and 17% recycling revenues in 2009. During this time we have also succeeded in decreasing our expenses by 20% from last year. Although we haven't seen it reflected in pricing yet, we are hoping that this is the bottom of the commodities market. We will see what the second quarter holds in store. Meanwhile, thank you for your continued support - together we can keep this working!. We continue to ask that recyclers make donations when dropping off any commodities - $3/trash can of glass and $3/household carload of all other recyclables. If you are a business or are bringing more, we hope you'll adjust your donation amount accordingly. Additional ways you can help:
