Recycling in the Methow Valley
Self-haul, curbside, and business recycling.
Materials we accept for recycling:

Beverage cans, food cans, coffee cans, peanut cans, pet food cans, you name it!

Corrugated cardboard. We bale this separately from all of our other paper products.

Office paper, magazines, mixed paper, paperboard (like cereal boxes), newspaper, egg cartons.
For self-haul: office paper, magazines, and newspaper are separated into different bins.

Plastic film like bubble wrap, plastic mailers, plastic wrap. If it’s stretchy, it’s likely accepted.

The BlueBag program is in partnership with WasteWise and allows us to recycle tricky plastics, food containers, and waxed cartons.
“Virtual” BlueBags - $5 This covers up to 13-gallons worth of clamshell containers, non-screw-top plastic food containers (like yogurt tubs), cartons (like milk cartons or ice cream containers), and any #5 - #7 plastics. If you have BlueBag items in your self-hauled recycling, this $5 charge is in addition to any membership passes or entrance fees.
Physical BlueBags - $5 Buy a bag, fill it with mixed recycling, and drop off at our facility or another drop off location. This can be a great option for part time residents, vacation rentals, or infrequent recyclers. Learn more here.

$5 for 17.5-gallon tote bin
$10 for 32-gallon standard trash can

$2/lb - we accept all kinds of household batteries, including rechargeable batteries from power tools, electronics batteries, 9V, etc.
Car batteries can be taken to the Twisp Transfer Station, and some auto part stores offer recycling incentive programs.
We do accept small, sealed lead acid batteries.

Fluorescent bulbs only! These types of bulbs contain mercury. Responsible recycling of these bulbs is through a state-run program.
Please dispose of all other bulbs in household garbage.

We run metal drives once or twice per year that are great for large loads.

Bring your documents in need of shredding, dump them in our locked shredding bins, and our partners at Shred-It will take care of the rest!

How to recycle:
Self-haul recycling — we charge per load, or you can buy an annual pass. When you bring your recycling to Methow Recycles, you’ll separate your items into bins.
Sign up for curbside recycling through our hauling partner, WasteWise. Note that glass, plastic film, and specialty recycling items cannot be recycled in curbside recycling!

Self-Haul Recycling
Annual Pass
Annual pass benefits include:
No need for payment when you recycle*
Come as often as you want, no “per load” charge
Special passholder-only hours on Tuesdays from 10 am to 4 pm
Receive a passholder-only newsletter with tips, updates, and reuse ideas
*Glass, BlueBag items, electronics, batteries, and shredding are not included with the annual recycling pass. These additional charges must be paid at the time of recycling.
Passes:
Individual - $100/yr
Couple - $150/yr
Family - $275/yr
Lifetime - $2,000 one time
Passes are valid through December 31st. All passes renew January 1st. When you join mid-year, we'll prorate the price of the pass quarterly.

Pay per load of household recycling:
Carload - $7
Truckload - $12
Glass, BlueBag items, electronics, batteries, and shredding are priced separately. If your load is mixed with these items, these charges will be in addition to the per-load fee.
Curbside Recycling
If you’d prefer to skip the drive, sign up for curbside recycling pickup, provided by your favorite Methow Valley hauler, WasteWise.
Curbside recycling is picked up and then delivered to us at Methow Recycles for processing and baling.
Friendly reminders for your curbside recycling:
As always, please make sure your curbside recyclables are EMPTY, CLEAN and DRY (real humans are processing it!)
NO glass, plastic wrap, or plastic bags in your curbside recycling.
All recyclables must be loose and not bagged - not even in a paper bag.
No specialty recycling items, like batteries, paint, fluorescent bulbs, electronics, ink cartridges, etc. These items must be brought directly to Methow Recycles. Additional charges may apply.

Business Recycling
Businesses can choose to self-haul recycling or sign up for curbside recycling with WasteWise. Many businesses choose a combination of both to manage all their recycling needs (like glass, large volumes of cardboard, or plastic film).
Self-Haul Business Rates:
Annual Business Pass - $325*
Monthly invoicing - $30/month*
Pay as you go - $15/load*
*Glass, batteries, electronics, secure shredding, and BlueBag items charged separately.
Business Glass:
$40/apple bin
$2/case (12 bottles)
